Patrick J. Jones is an award-winning figurative artist, author, and teacher. He grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, during the violent 30-year conflict known as 'the Troubles', before moving to London to pursue a life in art. Today, Patrick works from his studio in Brisbane, Australia, where he paints for private collectors and publishers and teaches his virtual 'Anatomy of Style' figure drawing course online at Computer Graphics Master Academy (CGMA). He also teaches figure drawing at Queensland University of Technology, and at his 'Anatomy of Style' workshops. Patrick has received various awards for his art and has been guest of honour at DragonCon in the USA. He also travels to the USA bi-yearly, to exhibit and to meet fellow artists, art collectors, and fans at the IX Gallery in Pennsylvania.
Foreword by Julie bell
Internationally acclaimed artist Julie Bell was born in Beaumont, Texas. A former nationally ranked competitive bodybuilder, she applies the same discipline and intensity to her art career. Her knowledge of anatomy has allowed her to imbue her figures of humans and animals with grace and strength. At the heart of her work is a deep curiosity, honour, and respect for the world of emotions. Julie's work in the fantasy and science fiction field has appeared on hundreds of book covers, comic books, trading cards, and various collectables. Her work can be seen worldwide in major advertising campaigns, album covers, posters, and collectables of all kinds. Every year, she and her husband, Boris Vallejo, produce paintings for the highly anticipated Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell Fantasy Calendar published by Workman, now in its 36th year.
In this companion volume to The Anatomy of Style, which covers the foundation techniques of drawing the human figure from life, artist and teacher Patrick J. Jones explores the discipline s more challenging aspects, both technical and philosophical. In this highly detailed and innovative book, Patrick recreates his live figure drawing workshops and demonstrates, step-by-step, his unique methods for accelerating your life drawing skills and enhancing your creativity. The result is a masterclass in drawing the human figure with emotion and ease, and developing your individual style. Key techniques and topics, including foreshortening, structure, gesture, rendering, and measuring with rhythm, are explained in a clear, concise, and conversational style. Also included are Patrick's latest anatomy and drawing study sheets, which feature a wealth of essential drawing notes, style tips, and at-a-glance memory clues.
