The information in this book is aimed at people who are thinking about starting their own business. It is written, as a result of the experiences the author had in firstly, an award winning, business he supported for his wife, for fifteen years and then more recently the journey taken by his son Matthew into the world of business. This has seen Matthew nominated for two awards in his first year of trading. The book does not create a ‘to do list’ because that information is already available in a variety of sources. It serves as a vehicle, to tell the story to date, of the difficulties he has met along the journey into the business world. It could be seen as a diary without dates and is intended as a guide to help others thinking about starting that long journey into business ownership. It is hoped that the advice given will reduce the risks to new businesses. You will see real problems that have been experienced and some helpful ways that he considered, sometimes after an expensive lesson was learned, which may assist you to address those difficulties. The title has been chosen because it is a something that many parents will hear their child say on any long journey,“Are we there yet dad” The answer to that question was very often “Not far now son” However experience has shown the author that the reality of going into business ownership is often a long continuous one, which may see you running as fast as you can just to stand still or in some cases going backwards. This could be a journey without end. It is essential that you know exactly what this journey will involve and be aware that there will be times particularly in the early days when you will think about nothing else.
