Michael Mensing was one of the most accomplished and prolific photographers of the British railway scene from the mid-1950s onwards until his death in 2014 at the age of 80. Michael was born in the West Midlands at Solihull, which is on the former Great Western main line from Birmingham Snow Hill to Paddington. He obtained a scholarship to attend the private Solihull School and then worked for the Midland Bank in Birmingham, moving to Fareham in Hampshire when he retired from the bank.
