Shortlisted for The Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction in 2016
Would-be novelist Michael Pollard disembarks from a flight where he has been fantasising about his death into an equally surreal life in the small town of Wood Green, as secretary to the reclusive author Lucian Clarke. What starts as a straightforward task of collecting facts about his life for an autobiography descends into the strange as his employer's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic.
It soon becomes clear to Michael that the facts of a man's life can add up to not knowing him at all, and the lives of the two men intertwine beyond the realms of the literary into the bizarre. Sean Rabin's Wood Green is an unsettling tale about the metamorphosis of two writers in a place where the boundaries of reality don't just blur, but collide.
'At once a brilliantly sustained comic performance, an anatomy of a small community halfway up a brooding mountainside, an imagining of the human costs of making fiction and their human costs.' Sydney Morning Herald
'Wood Green is a Chinese box of a novel, an exploration of the friction between realism and the surreal, between style and function, and the other attendant questions that a writer must ask before putting pen to paper.' The Australian

Wood Green is at once a love letter and a hate letter to literature, writing, writers and readers ... in the end, its success comes down to the ultimate test of any novel: could I easily put it down? Reader, I could not. --The Saturday Paper

paperback. Etat : Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
