Synopsis

Driven from his house and land in Jamaica by greedy relatives, Clifford Webb hears the mother country desperately needs workers. Promising to send for his family, he travels to England but soon finds it is not the land of milk and honey he had been led to believe it is. “White people no want us in dem country.” As racial attacks intensify against coloureds, Clifford is forced to fight for his life in the first West Indian defence carried out in Britain−the Notting Hill Riots of 1958.

B.M.J. Gatt was born in Jamaica and immigrated to England with her parents as a child. She now lives in Canada. “One of Many” is her first novel. She is working on her second.
