Synopsis

CANADA BOOK AWARD. An outstanding rhyming rendition from the world of warts and charmers, this surrealistic, ghoulish story of a boy plagued with a "not so very funny wart!" by one of Newfoundland's finest authors is highly original, darkly humorous, and fantastical. A generous sprinkling of Newfoundland folklore is employed in banishing the wart forever, as the author utilizes a combination of old rituals to concoct a "charm" that works like magic! The eerie, misty setting , and the solitary, tormented, Charles Dickens-like plight of the boy is hauntingly and expressively illustrated by both Italian artist Doriano Strologo and Geraldine Ryan-Lush, whose unique imagist styling from modern to fairy-tale mesh successfully, to add a legendary, far-off quality to the whole. The two artistic styles convey, from the appealing, delightfully gruesome imagery of Ryan-Lush's text, a cauldron of dark mystery, and witchy lore, in the finest Newfoundland folklore tradition.Geraldine Ryan-Lush is the multi-award-winning author , and sometimes illustrator, of 17 books, all categories. She lives in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada. Doriano Strologo is an Italian artist who has illustrated several children's books.
