Life is good in Calter Creek, Ohio. Pat Fraser loves her comfortable little house in a peaceful, 1940s neighborhood. When she learns of plans to build a mall on the vacant lot across the street, she sees red—and vows that no concrete monstrosity will deface her world.

LizAnn Carson writes in Victoria, British Columbia, a smallish city that's large enough to have all modern conveniences, but not so large as to have hours-long traffic jams or heavy duty pollution. She can follow a trail to her local supermarket, or be downtown by bus in twenty minutes. Besides writing, she enjoys a variety of crafts. She likes weight training and yoga - and doesn't do enough of them. Her philosophy? Life is a gift, and there's always something new to learn, some new path to explore.
