Synopsis

In 2005, Hamish Ironside wrote one haiku a day throughout the year. The finest of them were published by IRON Press in 2009 as Our Sweet Little Time, a richly entertaining and often very moving book (Liam Wilkinson, Prune Juice). A decade on, Hamish returns to the regimen. Three Blue Beans is the result, representing a sequel and a companion to Our Sweet Little Time. Like the first book, Three Blue Beans explores the possibilities of this most concentrated of poetic forms, offering haiku that range from the traditional to the experimental, combining striking imagery with philosophical reflection. With a leavening of humanity and humour, this is a collection of poems that is both accessible and enriching. The book is vividly illustrated with twelve linocuts commissioned by the publisher from the artist Mungo McCosh.
