But on social media and in other places where members of the profession gather, scripts are a topic of heated debate.There are those who would never enter a client session without a script, and those who believe they inhibit the creativity which is at the heart of any good hypnotherapy session.As with so many things, there is a middle ground.Immersing yourself in hypnotic language is a much easier way to learn it than committing a list of rules to memory.Not only that, we are not all natural ‘off-the-cuff' storytellers, and although it's a skill that can be acquired, it takes time to be confident. Those still learning or new to the amazing world of hypnotherapy often worry about ‘going blank' in the middle of a session. Using a script togive you ideas, but blending it with your own material based upon the client's unique situation seems to be a good way to go.This is the general principle I've always given mystudents; it wasn't until last year that one of them said to me, ‘It's all very well saying, "Adapt the scripts to the person you're working with", but how? What should I put in there from all the information they’ve given me? Whereshould I put it?'I realised at once that she had a point and went looking for ideas that might offer some sort of structure or guidance. I couldn’t find any, and it was the beginning of this book.My original thought was what a friend called ‘scripts with holes', alongside notes about what to put in them.That idea had its merits, and it may yet happen, but I soon realised when I started writing that I couldn’t start there. I had to take a step back and talk about how to collect the right information from your client before I could talkabout what to do with it. And so Their Worlds, Your Words was born.
