Gilly is a popular poet and singer, who is much in demand around East Anglia. She was born in Marlow to an accountant father who loved to write stories and poems, and a mother who, before her marriage, had been a piano teacher. Gilly attended High Wycombe High School, where the teachers loved her poems which she had been writing since early childhood. She moved to this area in the sixties, and wrote poems about events in her life. She also sang in a Caister folk group. She began to write comedy gradually, and also writes about more serious subjects.
