But through it all, ever-lurking in the background, is the specter of the formative event of Sophie’s early years: her father’s refusal to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee and subsequent blacklisting from his career as a Hollywood screenwriter. But even Sophie doesn’t know the whole story, and the truth may change her forever.

At heart The Wire Recorder is a story about injustice, and the courage it takes to stand up for what’s right.

Thomas A. Levitt is a Los Angeles native whose parents were blacklisted in the 1950s. He attended UC Santa Cruz and taught in the Los Angeles public schools for 33 years. The Wire Recorder is his first published novel.
