Synopsis

Since she can remember, Faith has been bullied about her weight. If it wasn’t her school friends, it was her mother. Now the teasing has even leaked into her relationship by a man who is supposed to love her, her fiancé, Esau. While traveling with him on a business trip to Jamaica, she realizes that the slender ideal she was taught in America does not exist everywhere. In fact, her curves are a benefit instead of a disadvantage. While Esau works, Faith spends most of her free time with Hosea, a Jamaican architect who likes a woman with meat on her bones. J. Maria Merrills, PhD (Writer/Producer) received her PhD in Educational Studies with a concentration in online learning from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She holds an M.A. in African American Literature from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a B. A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Contributing multiple articles for a variety of newspapers and journals, she serves as an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Winston-Salem State. In addition to Seeing Faith, Maria has written A Date with Destiny, The Two, Too Real Baby Company, and is in the process of completing Hope Lives Here, A Game of Will, and There But by the Grace
