Synopsis
This book contains basic words, phrases, and situational dialogues in English and Chizigula, which is an endangered Bantu language spoken by the Gosha people who live in Tanzania, Kenya, and Somalia. There are also several thousand Chizigula speakers (former refugees) now residing in the United States. This book represents an effort by the Chizigula speakers in the U.S. to promote increased English literacy within their community, as well as to ensure their ancestral language is not forgotten by their children. American author Stephanie Larkin has been assisting Bantu refugees since 2005, and her co-author Dadiri Nuro, a former refugee, was one of the founders of the Gosha Education Foundation (and is currently treasurer of GEF). Gosha Education Foundation distributes copies of this book free of charge to Chizigula-speaking children in Africa. One hundred percent of author royalties from books sold in the U.S. are donated to the Gosha Education Foundation to continue their work both in the U.S. and Africa.
