Synopsis
This is the original script for the poetic documentary film Tango Poema, written produced directed by Rieko Yamasawa. In February 2014, Buenos Aires’ Teatro del Globo invited Yamasawa to show her film as its first film premiere in the history of the theater where it received a warm welcome from the international audience. In 2006, internationally known and UNESCO honored artist Osvaldo Zotto invited Yamasawa to travel from Honolulu to Argentina to be his private student, and in Buenos Aires, she recreated herself as an artist of dance. The film presents a true story focused as a memorial to her time studying with Zotto and other Tango artists and to the year 2010 when the world of Tango bid a sad farewell to Osvaldo Zotto. Major Tango artists such as Lorena Ermocida, Roxana Fontan, Claudio Gonzales, his mother Nilda (Lili) Perna, Pablo Garcia, Ernesto Candal, Fernando Gracia, and Osvaldo Zotto´s mother Mabel Ada Bussolini all encouraged Yamasawa’s Tango Poema project and appear in the film in conversation and in dance. Yamasawa worked with young filmmakers from Fundación Universidad del Cine Buenos Aires to create a film that reveals her personal poetic view of life and art. She offers her audience “the texture of one woman’s image, one season of her face.” With this film, Tango comes to life, buoyed by Rieko’s unique life experiences in Buenos Aires where Tango was born and exists as part of daily life. Tango Poema tells the story of what it is to be alive as a woman, an artist, a poet.
