RUNNING WITH THE GRUNION is a collection of twenty short-short stories written as the author attempted to move past the difficulties of PTSD while living out in the middle of the Pacific near the beach. Each story addresses matters of the heart as mitigated by the mind or matters of the mind expanded by the heart. Effervescing as much with humor as with compassion, these quiet tales quietly invite readers to consider the oppressions imposed upon all of us by war and religion. Tia Ballantine is a writer and a painter, born in Peru, who has lived here there and everywhere but has most recently moved to the desert near the Mexican border. Her poems have been published in various journals, including: Mixed Nerve; Spillway; Saw Palm; Snakeskin Webzine; Queer Poetry; War, Literature and the Arts; Hawai`i Pacific Review; Poets Canvas; Five Fingers Review; The Red Wheelbarrow; Pirene's Fountain Poetry Review; HIart, and The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought. Her work has been anthologized in Sam Hamill’s Poets Against the War and in Winter Gifts, published in Scotland by Happenstance Press. She has also published individual short stories (not included in this collection), essays and poetry reviews.
