Synopsis
Written in the form of a letter to his grandchildren, Beck captures the essence of what it was like growing up in mid-twentieth century America. He takes us from his childhood in York, Pa., through adolescence in Massachusetts. Many of a certain age will enjoy reliving their own youth through his remembrances. He then tells often-amusing stories about his experiences at college, in the army and at various workplaces. The book culminates with his spiritual epiphany resulting in a radical change in careers – from a business executive to pastor of a church. It was for this ministry that God was preparing him. God was also preparing his wife Sue for her ministries in the church. He continues with stories from his days as a pastor and tells how he and his wife Sue dealt with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. The last part of the book looks at the changes in our society over his 70-plus years and technological changes since his grandmother’s birth in 1884. This book will bring back memories for Boomers and will give younger generations a glimpse into the bygone era in which their parents and grandparents grew up. An easy and fun read.
