Passionate & Fanatical Collection of Poetry
Alexander Baky Tran’s debut work “Barbarity” welcomes readers to a passionate, fanatical collection of vigorous poetry.
It includes 30 poems, all wildly distinctive even when they draw on the same notions or subjects. This is what makes their reading dramatically unpredictable and evocative. They prosper in their own forms, they move at a very particular pace, each with their own right and contention.
Tran portrays and exploits a tremendous skill for experimentation. From the historical massacres of My Lai in “The Bloodiest of Breakfast,” to the more trivial pursuits of infidelity in “Jesus on Hold,” Tran’s writing displays a witty, yet meticulous application of language and expression.
It’s clear Tran’s poetry indulges in obscurity. And it’s this very alluring style that renders the work a compelling, and phenomenal demonstration of poetic technique.
