For over five years Vera Basilone has maintained the website ParrisIsland.com where she writes, edits, and answers questions about Parris Island. As a Marine’s wife, she accompanied her husband, GySgt Basilone, to his various duty stations throughout his career: 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC; 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA; both Marine Corps Recruit Depots; FMF PAC, Pearl Harbor; and MCLB Albany, GA. At each location, she observed the unique challenges and opportunities faced by the Marines. After her husband retired from the Marine Corps, she worked at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot for over nine years as an information technology contract worker. Vera received her bachelor’s degrees from the University of South Carolina Aiken and Georgia Southwestern University. She lives in Beaufort, South Carolina, with her husband, Michael, and Mr. Winston, the dachshund.
