Synopsis

Michael J. Carney was a writer, salesman, and performer. Born in Claymont,
Delaware, he graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in American
Studies. His greatest influences as a writer were Mark Twain, Jules Verne, and Kurt
Vonnegut.

Though he passed on August 8, 2003, because of a distracted driver, at the age of 54,
his words live on in this collection of 13 essays and 13 poems about how America
changed in the 13 years after President John F. Kennedy was killed. He wrote this
book when he was 29.

The Why? Generation (in a Why-Not World.), as it was called when it was self-
published in 1978, has been redesigned and updated by Mick’s daughter, Laura
Carney, who is also a writer. It is a young man’s guide to life.

Mick’s bucket list, which went unfinished when he died, is being completed by his
daughter, the story of which will appear in her memoir My Father’s List: How Living
My Dad’s Dreams Set Me Free
, published by Post Hill Press on May 29, 2023.
