Synopsis

"Life of Roger Williams" by Romeo Elton offers a detailed biographical account of the life and legacy of Roger Williams, a key figure in early American history. Williams, a staunch advocate for religious freedom and the separation of church and state, founded the colony of Rhode Island, which became a haven for those seeking refuge from religious persecution in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Elton's biography explores Williams's theological beliefs, his conflicts with the Puritan establishment, and his relationships with Native American tribes. This volume provides valuable insights into the religious and political landscape of 17th-century New England and highlights the enduring importance of Williams's contributions to the principles of religious liberty and individual conscience. Students of American history and religious studies will appreciate this detailed and meticulously researched biography.
