Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - 'The Babylonian Epic of Creation' is a seminal work of ancient Mesopotamian literature, presenting the foundational cosmogony of the Babylonian world. This edition, restored from tablets recovered at Assur, offers a comprehensive look at the 'Enuma Elish', the epic poem that recounts the birth of the gods and the rise of Marduk to supremacy. As the patron deity of Babylon, Marduk's victory over the chaos-monster Tiamat and the subsequent ordering of the universe form the dramatic core of this sacred text.Translated and compiled by S. Langdon, this volume provides deep insight into the religious and cultural life of ancient Babylon. The text explores themes of divine hierarchy, the origins of humanity, and the establishment of cosmic law. It serves as an essential primary source for students of the Ancient Near East, comparative religion, and mythology. By piecing together fragments of cuneiform inscriptions, Langdon presents a narrative that illustrates how the ancient inhabitants of Mesopotamia understood their world and their place within the divine order. This scholarly restoration remains a vital contribution to the study of ancient Semitic traditions and early mythological development. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
