Buch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - 'The English in English Bibles: Rhemes 1582, Authorized 1611, Revised 1881: St. Matthew 1-14' is a meticulous comparative study of the English language as it has been applied to the translation of the Holy Scriptures. Focusing specifically on the first fourteen chapters of the Gospel of St. Matthew, author Joseph F. Sheahan provides a side-by-side examination of three pivotal editions: the Douay-Rheims (1582), the Authorized King James Version (1611), and the Revised Version (1881).This scholarly work serves as an essential resource for those interested in the evolution of English prose and the nuances of biblical translation. By analyzing the variations in vocabulary, syntax, and phrasing between the Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions across three centuries, the book highlights how linguistic shifts and theological priorities shaped the English-speaking world's understanding of the New Testament. Scholars of linguistics, church history, and biblical criticism will find this volume particularly valuable for its detailed attention to the subtle differences that define these landmark translations. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
