Buch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - 'The Neighborhood: A Study of Local Life in the City of Columbus, Ohio' is a seminal work in urban sociology that examines the intricate social fabric of an American city during the early twentieth century. Written by Roderick Duncan McKenzie, a key figure in the Chicago School of sociology, this study investigates how neighborhood boundaries, community organizations, and social interactions shape the lives of urban residents. By focusing on the specific geographical and social landscape of Columbus, Ohio, McKenzie explores the concept of social ecology and the ways in which environmental factors influence human behavior and group associations. This detailed analysis offers a fascinating look at the challenges and dynamics of urban life, from the distribution of population to the role of local institutions in fostering a sense of belonging. The work remains an essential resource for those interested in the history of sociology, human ecology, and the development of Midwestern cities. It provides a foundational perspective on how local communities evolve within the broader context of rapid urbanization and industrial growth, making it a valuable text for historians and social scientists alike. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
