Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. "Two Irish Plays" presents a compelling duo of dramatic works by the acclaimed Irish playwright George Shiels, a prominent figure associated with the Abbey Theatre. This volume includes "Mountain Dew", a play in three acts, and "Cartney and Kevney", a three-act comedy, both of which showcase Shiels' mastery of character and his sharp insight into the social dynamics of early 20th-century Ireland. In "Mountain Dew", Shiels explores themes of rural life and communal identity with his characteristic blend of realism and wit. "Cartney and Kevney" shifts the focus to a more comedic vein, detailing the escapades of two memorable characters whose interactions provide a humorous yet biting commentary on class and reputation. George Shiels was renowned for his ability to capture the authentic voice of the Irish people, making these plays significant contributions to the canon of modern Irish drama. These works remain vital for their portrayal of the complexities of human nature and the specific cultural landscape of Ireland during a transformative era. Readers and students of theater will find in "Two Irish Plays" a rich example of the storytelling tradition that defined the Irish literary revival, offering both entertainment and profound social observation. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
