System of Systems Modeling and Analysis provides the reader with motivation, theory, methodology, and examples of modeling and analysis for system of system (SoS) problems. In addition to theory, this book contains history and conceptual definitions, as well as the theoretical fundamentals of SoS modeling and analysis. It then describes methods for SoS modeling and analysis, including use of existing methodology and original work, specifically oriented to SoS.
Providing a bridge between theory and practice for modeling and analysis of SoS, this book includes generalized concepts and Methods, Tools, and Processes (MTP) applicable to SoS across any application domain. Examples of application from various fields will be used to provide a practical demonstration of the use of the methodologies.
Features
This book is intended for senior undergraduate students in engineering programs studying SoS modeling, SoS analysis, and SoS engineering courses. Professional engineers will also benefit from MTP and examples as a baseline for specific user applications.

Daniel DeLaurentis, PhD, is professor in Purdue University's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he also directs the Center for Integrated Systems in Aerospace (CISA) and its main component, the System of Systems Lab. His primary research and teaching interests include problem formulation, modeling, design and control methods for aerospace systems and systems-of-systems, all from a model-based perspective. Dr. DeLaurentis annually teaches a graduate course “System of Systems Modeling and Analysis” at Purdue, now regularly with enrollment over 100 students. DeLaurentis has supported many students and professional staff who have made impacts across diverse domains including air transportation, defense/security, civil infrastructure, and space exploration. Dr. DeLaurentis also as the Chief Scientist of the U.S. DoD’s Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC). He is Fellow of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and senior member of the IEEE.
Kushal Moolchandani, PhD, works as an aerospace engineer for Universities Space Research Association at the NASA Ames Research Center. His current work is research under NASA's Air Traffic Management - eXploration (ATM-X) project, specifically on the development of airspace services for Urban Air Mobility. Previously, he has also worked on design and optimization of civil transport aircraft and modeling and simulation studies of aviation’s impact on the environment. His research interests include design and optimization of complex aerospace systems, air transportation systems, and systems engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering from PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, India, and MS and PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University.
Cesare Guariniello, PhD, is a research scientist in Purdue University’s School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He holds two Master’s degrees, in Automation and Robotics Engineering and in Astronautical Engineering, from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University. His research interests include System-of-Systems design and architecting, space applications, cybersecurity, dynamics and control, and planetary geology. Dr. Guariniello has been involved in research projects with NASA, the US DoD, the US Navy, MITRE corporation, and the NSF. Recently, he expanded his role to mentoring and managing students and lecturing graduate-level classes. Dr. Guariniello is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronical Engineers (IEEE), and a member of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), and the American Astronautical Society (AAS).
