Synopsis

For millennia, human beings have wondered if there is a hidden, greater reality behind the world of appearances. In Hideous Night we discover what that reality is. And it is not the answer we expected or wanted.
Marius Larsen is a brave man who once drove off a polar bear armed only with an axe. But after a freak accident, he is able to see through the veil of appearances to what lies beyond and is appalled.
Because what lies beyond, is a race of parasites who call themselves the hran. They feed on the minds of intelligent beings and have been preying on humans for thousands of years.
Their parasitic load is steadily weakening the human race and extinction is now not far off. Generation by generation, their victims become weaker as disease and weakness spread
But how can he convince people of his sanity when only he can see them?
Desperately, he searches for an answer in the shrinking community of scientists, and encounters the brilliant but aloof Celine Dubois. She runs an advanced facility in which powerful particle accelerators probe the nature of time and space. But she has her own problems - her staff are reporting encounters with ghosts, and now people are vanishing.
But slowly the two come together under the guidance of an advanced Al that explains the hran are from another dimension.
And the creatures can only be defeated if a band of courageous individuals are prepared to cross to the hidden dimension of the parasites and battle them in their own world.
