Deep in the forest, by the bottom of the great mountain, grows the Mumbo Tree of Healing Powers. Creatures called the Daylers pick its fruit during the day, and creatures called Howlers pick its fruit at night, never meeting each other. They only know of the other from stories, passed down through generations, that warn of terrible monsters who will attack on sight. When Mushmell, a Dayler, and Quetzoo, a Howler, accidentally meet at the base of the tree at dusk, their entire lives are upended and their understandings and adventures begin. Howl is an early chapter book for young readers. With themes of accepting differences and inclusion, it uses fantastical characters and an engaging story to show children how old beliefs and lack of knowledge can create fear and misunderstanding. The book celebrates differences and similarities and shows children how to combat their own prejudices and meet the world with acceptance, openness and love.

SeaJuel is a retired care giver, wife, mother, grandmother and was the captain of her boat the JilleeBreeze. Now as a photographer, she sells prints and cards of spectacular Vancouver Island, both landscapes and of the creatures that get in the way of her lens. Years ago, when her son was being teased, SeaJuel was inspired to write Howl. 30 years later her grandchildren helped refresh the story. In her free time, she loves to take photos, write, sing, play video games, hike, camp, forage, garden, and go beach combing. She can often be found with at least one rock or shell in her pocket! Her most important and enjoyable pastime, however, is spending time with her husband, son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. SeaJuel lives in South Duncan, B.C., Canada, with her best friend and husband, Dan, and their cats.
