Synopsis

Windrush: 7 Events That Changed Britain examines pivotal moments in the Windrush story, from the arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948 – bringing West Indies to Britain – to the election of the first Black MP in 1987. Along with six other notable events, this very readable book highlights the contributions West Indians made to British society, charts the history of their progress, and shows how these seven events, in an unbroken chain, have impacted and transformed the nation.

Not content to narrate these stories, the author shares his personal experiences of them and provides a first-hand account of how they unfolded and their outcomes. As events, they fundamentally changed Britain, and as Black people continue to be an integral part of the country, future generations will need to carry this legacy forward. They will face difficulties, but they can be proud that they are part of the most successful migration story in the history of Britain, if not the world, how by coming, Black people changed Britain, and how they themselves were transformed by the experience.
