As the Roman fleet sails relentlessly through the night towards Britannia's towering white cliffs, the tribes north of the Tamasa obliviously continue their civil war, while those on the southern coast lie in wait.
During the celebrations following Caesar's departure, Scaeva, a young Briton living under the protection of Epona, a Celtic goddess, enrages the powerful king of a neighbouring tribe, and must face justice, as decreed by the druids—five bloody prophecies about his future are foretold.
To escape his fate, Scaeva is offered by his tribe to Caesar as a hostage, in a deal that would ensure the Romans a successful second invasion the following year.
Sent to Rome for his education at the house of Caesar's daughter Julia, wife of Pompey the Great, disaster strikes and the first prophecy unfolds.
Meanwhile, back in Britannia, Caesar's second invasion ends in personal grief and shattered dreams.
