Colonel Kernel and His Good Ship Homonym will delight both children and adults. It truly is "a zany tale from head to tail."
Funny, pudgy Colonel Kernel is hired to deliver a bizarre cargo (everything from a yak to a beautiful bride-to-be) to a handsome prince who lives across the ocean. A terrible storm ensues, the crew is angry, the ship is sinking and it looks like lives, cargo and ship will be lost. It is chaos on the good ship Homonym!
For children and adults learning the English language, homonyms are frustrating, confusing and difficult. Homonyms are words that sound the same but have different meanings. The English language has over 1000 of these crazy, confusing words.
Colonel Kernel calls his ship Homonym for good reason. Over 100 homonyms are used to tell the tale. The homonyms are part of the story and a big part of the fun. There is no better way to learn these homonyms than to see them used in context in a delightful, zany and funny story.
A perfect book for kids ages 5 to 12, adults learning the English language or teachers needing a clever way to teach homonyms.

Ann is a busy grandma who loves her grandchildren, her children, golf, tennis, yard work, projects, bird-watching, cutting nature trails, art and her husband of over one half of a century. The order of love depends on the day.She had the idea of writing a story using as many homonyms as possible for years. The idea was gelling well before her first two published children's books: The Gifts of Baby Duck, published in 2017, and Coyotes: The Way of the Wild, published in 2019. This story veers away from her nature series about animals that live on the shores of Sturgeon Lake, Alberta, Canada. In her words, the homonym story "was simply one of those projects that wouldn't go away!"- hence, Colonel Kernel and His Good Ship Homonym.Kyle is a skilled children's book illustrator with five years of experience in the field. As one of the artists at Tellwell Publishing, he has contributed to numerous book projects. Among his most notable achievements is Colonel Kernel and His Good Ship Homonym, a project he holds in high regard. Collaborating with author Ann McLeod, whose creative vision and insightful ideas greatly influenced the project, Kyle was able to craft captivating illustrations that brought the story to life in a truly special way.
