A Poetry Collection for the Heartbroken, the Healing, and the Hopeful
“Grief does not follow a straight path, and neither does this book.”
I wrote Uprooted: A Season of Grief after my father died. I did not know how to live in the days that followed, so I wrote. This collection moves the way grief moved for me, through the seasons.
Fall was the first drop into darkness. Winter was stillness and shock, the long stretch of numb days. Spring arrived quietly, with the first thaw of memory. Summer carried a gentler light. And then the cycle returned, because grief does not stay in one place.
These poems are moments of love and loss, and the strange work of learning how to live on. The natural world is close throughout. Soil, weather, trees, light. Not as decoration, but as witness.
This is not a guide. It is a companion.
If you are grieving a parent, a partner, a child, or the version of yourself that existed before loss, I hope these poems offer language for what can be hard to name, and a place to sit for a while.
