Synopsis
"Hi. I'm Jasmine, but you know that don't you?" A pretty silly beginning, but how do you start a conversation with a bird the size of an ultra-light plane? "At the risk of offending a stranger by bringing up religion, I get the impression that this is not heaven, or the other place. Where are we?" she asked. "Your grasp of unconventional reality is innate. Listen always to your inner voice and all will go smoothly." The voice came, not from the bird but from the surrounding darkness. It buoyed her spirits and calmed her nerves. At the same time, it gave her a terrible sense of lost control. Her body began to tingle again, this time with fear. The shadow that crossed her mind earlier came back, darker, unavoidable. "That was supposed to be a joke. Am I really dead?" she asked. The voice gave no answer. Jasmine reflected that the silence itself was an answer. It was the answer she suspected but not the answer she wanted. "What is this place?" she asked. "You are in another dimension. It is a dimension of power, parallel to your own and connected in ways impossible for you to understand. You have been chosen to carry some of this power into your world. You will use the power to battle the forces of darkness."Jasmine felt a grumble of impatience that she tried hard to control. "Terrific. I ask for information and what do I get the introduction to a comic book."
