The increasing depletion of fossils fuel resources and their negative impact on human health and environment has fuelled the interest of researchers for the search and development of novel functional materials from naturally occurring bio-polymeric precursors. Composite and nano-biocomposite functional materials basically derived from naturally occurring biopolymers such as lignin and chitosan, two formidable biopolymers, have attracted our attention in view of their important applications in areas of reinforced fiber technology, water sorption & purification, food technology, medicine and agro-industry. Utilization of huge amounts of potential waste in recovery of lignin and chitosan from paper industries, bio-refineries and fisheries is simultaneously achieved in synthesis of value-added biocompatible and biodegradable composite materials from lignin and chitosan. In this monograph, we have attempted to summarize the various isolation methods of lignin & chitosan with new advances and issues involving the use of lignin in the development of polymer composite materials with chitosan. We have attempt to highlights recent composites materials synthesis and their applications. This monograph will increase the attention and knowledge of researchers all around the world in lignin-chitosan based polymer composites materials with new ideas in this field.
