Synopsis

I have had many musicians approach me wondering how they can learn to read chord charts. The requirements of musicians performing commercial music, as well as contemporary music of every style, has changed very little over the years for those musicians who want to be able to perform without the aid of technology to help shape the nal outcome of their performance. If they want to perform “live” and perform at their best they’ll need to develop the same basic skills that have faced musicians throughout the history of pop music. Those requirements can be summarized in three categories that all rhythm section players are responsible for learning and understanding. They are:1. The form of pop music and the layout of a chord chart2. A working knowledge of modern harmony indicated by chord symbols 3. Musical style (rock, country, Latin, etc.)Each of the three sections of this book will explore these subjects by teaching the basics behind each one and following it up with practical application.
