Synopsis
Many who have been in the service of their country, may or may not have come familiar with LST ships, and it not this is the book to read about to learn about them if so interested. The two LSTs wrote about here are very similar but were described as doing two different jobs. One was involved in carrying heavy loads on oil to Alaska, like 3,000 barrels of oil, to Point Barrow Alaska before oil was discovered there. This is quite a story in its self. However, the story of the other importance of LSTs during evacuations when thousands of evacuees need to be transported is pictured how it is done with an LST with a large cargo bin and top open deck that can safely transport many people. Then there is much to say about the great LST ship tanks that were so welcomed in World WarTwo and were so helpful in beach assaults where ships like this were designed and built especially for this purpose. However, after the war, they have been used for other purposes as well. One of their main features is their flat bottom where they can go in numerous light water areas that other larger ships can not go. The book describes the LST well and shows how it can be used in so many different ways and it is a great read with numerous related stories within 200 plus pages.
