Synopsis

ABSENCE OF PRESENCE: This novel is about a girl who loses her way in life. A neighbor attempted to murder her as a child. She married a man who made her feel less of a person. Every day of her marriage she suffered mental abuse from him. She developed severe clinical depression. To try to help her find herself her psychiatrist asks her to research her ancestors as a way to keep her mind busy. He is hoping that seeing the strength it took for her ancestors to survive will make her realize she too can overcome insurmountable odds to become a whole person. Her ancestors were strong people who survived two world wars, dealt with death, lost their jobs and lived during prohibition. They survived great hardships and she soon finds herself feeling stronger and more self-assured through her research. She created a new life from chaos to become a healthy, happy individual with the help of her psychiatrist and her faith. It was a lengthy process but she came out strong and healthy in mind and spirit. I hope this knowledge and how she went about finding her presence will encourage other people to get the help they need and get healthy in mind, body and spirit.S. A. Laird is an author originally from Columbus, Ohio. She has always had a passion for writing. Her writing includes short stories, poems and songs. She is retired and pursuing her dream of being an author. She enjoys reading; playing with her rescue dog, oil painting, working crossword puzzles and playing cards. She has led a very interesting life. Her jobs include working for a television station, working for an airline with many in between. She is a Christian and has always known that God holds her in the palm of His hand. She feels that she is meant to write novels that are interesting, insightful and helpful to people who have gone through similar experiences. She has changed names, places and embellished stories or added fictionalized accounts of some of the truth of her existence. That is why her books are called fiction even though some of them are based on her life. She has written five books so far and they are all available on Amazon. She is currently working on organizing two volumes of short stories.
