Book Description
Want to improve your game, and realise your playing and coaching potential? In this book, award-winning Cambridge-based coach Mike Lipschitz has the answers. Drawing on over 40 years of coaching experience, Mike’s RACER and SELF concepts will change the way you think about performance in any sport, at any level, at any age.
For players, teams and coaches, the RACER cycle of Ready > Anticipate > Choose > Execute > Recover is presented in an accessible manner, underpinned by Mike’s deep knowledge of sports psychology, and his experience of coaching, playing and watching numerous sports at all levels. Sports legends from Muhammad Ali to Venus Williams to Yogi Berra are cited, and Mike illuminates many of his RACER principles with stories from his lifelong love of all things sport.
For coaches, implementing RACER alongside the SELF pedagogy of Safety > Enthusiasm > Learning > Fun will give you the edge that Mike and his coaches at Mike’s Tennis Academy enjoy. Over his long career, Mike has trained thousands of students and more than 250 coaches.
RACER Five Steps to Sporting Success is essential reading for the novice or the seasoned pro in any sport.
Review
RACER is beyond an acronym, it is a philosophy by which to pursue your sport and is also an excellent guide to success in life. Mike talked about this over 20 years ago when he coached my son and so he lives and breathes it. I strongly recommend RACER (Shai Vyakarnam, Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship, Cranfield University)
