It seems to me that a common historical error is to attribute the existence of a building or structure to the person: despot, pharaoh, queen or king, who reigned at the time it was built. Surely the building or structure was built by the blood, sweat, tears and sufferings of those who did the actual work. Think of the pyramids of Egypt where millions worked and died, and for whom the pyramids were literally their life’s work. So it is easy to remember (or find if forgotten) the name of the Parish Priest at the time that the school on the highway was built, blessed and opened in 1969, just 50 years ago, and not know the names and achievements of the myriad men and women of the Edmonton Parish and Community truly responsible for the building of the school. It is these men and women this compilation of memories seeks to honour and place in their rightful place; the pages of history. Those who have chosen to write have written about their own and their family’s memories of the Edmonton Community effort in building the school on the Highway.
