Thomas Eugene Coffman – the author who does not consider himself a poet – has done the impossible: he has written a collection of poetry. An attempt to be more concise and traditional with his own style, Today I Don’t Care is his way of showing the world his voice, whether they want to hear it or not. Some of these poems rhyme, hopefully instilling lighthearted wit. Many aim for laughs or smiles, and a few delve into his debauchery or self-deprecating humor. Some ponder questions, big or small, mundane or beautifully odd, while others address personal demons or anxieties. One poem talks about a squirrel, another about cats, and plenty discuss writing itself. And of course there are works that are surely too personal in hindsight, but they live in this collection regardless, ready to be read. It’s likely that by tomorrow Coffman will look back on this collection and cringe from embarrassment or shame. But not today. No, not today. Today, he just doesn’t care. He hopes you do, reader.
