This book is a special study for Christian ladies. It refers to the lady in Mark 14:3-9, who is described as entering the room where Jesus was feasting with his disciples. There in simple devotion, without speaking a word, she broke an alabaster box filled with precious ointment and poured its contents on Jesus. She had understood that He was going to die for her sins, that His destiny of the Cross would come soon. Knowing this, she came to anoint Him ahead of time to fulfill her heart's devotion to her Savior. Others misunderstood her actions, but Jesus understood. He knew her heart. When the others asked Him to rebuke her, he replied, "Let her alone.... She hath done what she could..." Mark 14:6-8. These statements speak directly to our hearts today. It is an assurance to know that the Lord understands our actions, our motives and our heart devotion. But it is also comforting to know that He is well aware of what we each can do for Him. Rest and Peace can come into our lives as we realize that we do not need to strive to do what others do, but only what God has given each of us to do individually. In this study we will examine the ways this applies to a Christian lady's life, so that in the end our Lord may honor us with the same commendation: "she has done what she could do." We will view what lies in each of our Alabaster Boxes of devotion to Christ.
