In Christ, we have a model of biblical leadership. Jesus Christ was a preacher, He is our Chief Shepherd, and He is our Suffering Servant. Why is the word "leadership" used so casually in the church, from “servant leaders”; “ministry leaders”; “scriptural leadership”; “unofficial leadership”; “trustees”; “committees”; and back in the day, “leading brothers.” Does it depend on the local church context? Is there an approach to leadership that we may have overlooked? From the pulpit to pew, the church is hurt, wounded and ineffective. Church fights, church splits, power struggles, abuse of authority, weakens the church, causing the church to lose sight of kingdom agenda. Self-hatred has contributed to the demise of servant leadership particularly in African-American congregations. Because mankind was created in the image of Divinity, mankind is recreated when converted to Christ. Church leaders must adopt a theocratic model of servant leadership. The holy God in Scripture is an ethical God. God the Father, Jesus the Son, The Holy Spirit the Comforter are the embodiment of integrity. There was a Trinitarian action of teamwork, cooperation, and delegation. Each played a crucial role. The Father did not create without the Son, nor was the Spirit excluded. All other forms of leadership have flaws in a spiritual climate. Leaders are challenged to avoid the pitfalls of autocratic, democratic, meritocratic or utilitarian models. This book provides an overview of ethics in ministry based on a theocratic model. In addition are practical tips that will enable church leaders to work harmoniously modeled after the creative work of the Triune God.
