Is there a right way to worship God? Many have attempted to present the advantages or benefits of one type of worship over another type, as in liturgical over contemporary, orthodox versus informal and spontaneous, “low church” versus “high church”. Still others seemingly declare the discussion mute and presumably unnecessary with articles entitled “Worship the Way God Commanded It” and “True Worship Defined by the Lord, Not Our Traditions” and “What are the ingredients to a truly biblical worship service?” "Right Worship" explores worship from the earliest recorded documents, through two centuries of denominational variations. In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the believers in Rome, “true and proper worship” is quite narrowly defined. Missing from Paul’s injunction is any mention of liturgy, musical style, use of instruments, written or spontaneous prayers, doctrinal statements, particular translation of Scriptures, orientation of sanctuary or pulpit, women pastors, frequency of communion, collection of tithes and offerings, or day of the week on which to worship. Paul is concise and brief -- true worship involves a singular act of sacrifice of our selves to God. Little else is necessary or required.
