Synopsis

Awesome Reading Comprehension is a five-book series that is designed to focus on practical reading comprehension skills. It features fun and interesting stories that are both fiction and non-fiction. It also includes stories with dialogue to provide well-rounded access to all types of reading situations. This series presents a unique approach to building not only reading comprehension skills but also language usage skills.
Each unit presents an image with a story. From the story, 10 vocabulary words are pulled so that the student can learn more about that word and its use. The words are all in the same conjugation as used in the story. Students will define each word and its part of speech. Then they will use the vocabulary word in a new sentence to further their understanding of the tense and usage. After the vocabulary has been addressed, it is time for the student to answer comprehension questions about the story. Having a better understanding of the vocabulary will allow the students to activate their recall of what they have read. To further the student's comprehension, they will be challenged to make predictions on the content they have read and then continue the story. By making predictions, the student can demonstrate their true understanding of the story and by continuing the story on their own, they can further practice their writing skills.

I started writing books as a way to help my students see patterns in English as opposed to memorizing grammar rules, while important, suck the life out of learning a language. The students did extremely well with my first book so I continued to write. I made writing workbooks that go along with my curriculum to help students learn how to write essays and paragraphs. It became fun. Now, my daughter loves to tell stories. She has a vivid imagination and I love listening to her. One day, I got the idea to write down one of her stories and make it into an actual book. She is 8 now, 7 at the time, so I needed to "add" some to the stories to have them make a bit more sense and make it easier to read. That is my new adventure. Writing the stories that my daughter tells me and make them into books. She is so excited by the idea and loves the fact that kids all over the world can read her stories and have her book. My life has since improved and the only negatives of my MBA, rest in the massive student loan that still follows me. Expect more stories from my daughter and I. I had a blast writing them and she loves telling them. I will also continue to make English language books to help students learn English the easy way.
