Synopsis
Many years ago, as a research student in Manchester, United Kingdom, I worked on computer models to help predict the changes to our climate as a result of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. I have moved a long way out of that field now; nonetheless as my children grow older and out of a growing anxiety, I have revisited the subject. It is clear that Climate Change presents an existential threat to human civilisation and ecosystems on our planet, however there appears to be an inertia to addressing this planetary crisis. We urgently need solutions and the basic straw man proposal I have created attempts to address this by describing how we can use capitalism and consumerism as our primary weapons in combating this threat.
