The Afghan Hound originates from the cold mountains of Afghanistan. The breed has multiple different names such as: Kuchi hound, Balkin Hound, Galanday Hound and the Tāžī Spay (which is what it is known as locally in Afghanistan). The breed is known for its highly distinguishable thick and silky coat and ring curl tail. Traditionally the Afghan Hound has been used as a sighthound during hunting. This means that the breed has a high ‘prey drive’ and may not get along with small animals or children.
