Who's it for?
Upper intermediate and advanced classes (adults) of English as a foreign or second language (EFL, ESL).
How does it work?
Students discuss questions related to an authentic text / quotation. The book is packed with interesting facts and figures designed to stimulate discussions. Students will feel they are discussing something interesting, and that the language of discussion just happens to be in English.
What's new?
At least a third of the exercises cover controversial subject matter that goes well beyond the realms of the topics traditionally covered in ESL / EFL textbooks.
What preparation is involved for the teacher?
Unlike Volume 1 and Volume 2 in this series, Volume 3 requires some preparation by the teacher - but simply in terms of reading the texts and questions, and deciding whether they are suitable or not for particular students. Those exercises that might not be suitable for certain students are marked with a bomb icon. Details are outlined in the Teachers Introduction and the Students Introduction.
What's the duration of a typical exercise?
From 10-minute warm ups to full-blown 60-minute discussions depending on the students' level of involvement.
What else do I need to know?
The table of contents indicates which exercises might not be suitable with certain classes, which require preparation by the teacher, and which have a key.
