Strings: originally 6.4.4.3.2. / new version: 4.3.3.2.1 First performance: 25 December 1978, Union of Composers, Moscow, Vasili Lobanov, piano, Orchestra of Radio and TV USSR, Vladimir Kozhukhar, conductor. Publications: Full score (version 1), Sovetsky Kompozitor, 1985 (320 copies) Full score (version 2), Meladina Press, Meladina Music series No. 38, 2019 (KDP for Amazon, on demand) The concerto is written for piano and string orchestra (originally: 19 string instruments). It is one movement piece that combines the sonata form with the form of variations. Both the principal and the subordinate themes are built as a series of growing intervals: from the minor second to the major seventh, and contain all possible intervals, but with the repetition of some of the pitches in the series. The Concerto is dedicated to the pianist and composer Vasily Lobanov, who performed it on two occasions and even composed the cadenza to it, which was published along with the score (Soviet Composer publishing house, Moscow 1985), but has never been played yet. This is the publication of a new version of the score (for 13 string instruments minimum in the orchestra) that was created in 2014 and then revised in 2019.
