The second volume of Milo’s Adventures was inspired by true events. During a recent visit to our neighbourhood public pool, we were confronted by a mother and daughter who told Milo that boys don’t play with dolls. As educators, we decided to make this a teachable moment and open up the dialogue around gender norms and stereotypes. We want Milo to know that there are no such things as girl toys or boy toys. In the end, toys are toys. Let kids be kids.
