This is a true account of the 2005 trial of a Mennonite social worker from Newton, Kansas, and his RN wife, on charges of Medicare fraud and involuntary servitude. The couple had provided unlicensed (private) housing for a number of schizophrenic residents for more than a quarter of a century. A November, 1999, complaint about nude people seen working on a farm in rural Kansas led to the investigation, and federal criminal charges. Former residents of Kaufman House, parents of former residents, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, and Medicare billing experts are among the witnesses whose testimony led to "guilty" verdicts for both defendants.
