Synopsis

Historic Sketches of Free Methodism is a book written by Joseph Kirsop in 1885. The book provides a detailed history of the Free Methodist Church, a Christian denomination that originated in the United States in the mid-19th century. Kirsop traces the origins of the Free Methodist Church back to the Methodist Episcopal Church, from which it emerged as a result of disagreements over issues such as slavery, the use of alcohol, and the role of women in the church. The book covers the key figures and events in the history of the Free Methodist Church, including the founding of the denomination by B.T. Roberts, the establishment of the first Free Methodist Church in New York, and the growth of the church throughout the United States and Canada. Kirsop also explores the theological beliefs and practices of the Free Methodist Church, including its emphasis on holiness, sanctification, and social justice. Overall, Historic Sketches of Free Methodism provides a comprehensive and insightful look at the history and development of one of the most important Christian denominations in the United States. It is a valuable resource for scholars, historians, and anyone interested in the history of Christianity in America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
